Charter, CenturyLink, and Spectrum Customers: We Cannot Email You!

CenturyLink is a United States Internet Service Provider. They sell cable, phone, and television services.

As of March 13, 2016 CenturyLink has blacklisted the Once Daily Digest emails from Xenite.Org, and probably all emails originating from Xenite.Org.

CenturyLink provides no method for originators of emails to request being whitelisted or removed from their blacklist.

If you are a CenturyLink subscriber and you want to receive the Once Daily Digest from this blog so that you’ll know when new articles have been published you will have to use some other email address.

The Once Daily Digest is an “opt-in” list that requires you to verify (via email) that you want to receive these digests. They are only sent when new articles have been published on the blog.

How do we know that CenturyLink has blacklisted us? Because we started receiving messages like this:

<[USERNAME]@centurylink.net>: host mx.centurylink.net[205.219.233.5] refused to
talk to me: 550 5.7.1 [C10] RBL restriction: Blacklisted by Internal
    Reputation Service - 192.96.215.25

In December 2020 we began receiving the following messages from Charter/Spectrum Internet users:

 host pkvw-mx.msg.pkvw.co.charter.net [47.43.26.7]
SMTP error from remote mail server after initial connection:
    554 p-impin028.msg.pkvw.co.charter.net cmsmtp 192.96.215.25 blocked. Please see https://www.spectrum.net/support/internet/understanding-email-error-codes for more information. AUP#In-1000

In December 2023 we began receiving the following messages from BellSouth/SBCGlobal:

host ff-ip4-mx-vip2.prodigy.net [144.160.159.22]
SMTP error from remote mail server after MAIL FROM::
550 5.7.1 Connections not accepted from servers without a valid sender domain.flph836 Fix reverse DNS for 192.96.218.37

*=> OUR email server is configured correctly. This is a problem on BellSouth/SBCGlobal’s side. THEY are not correctly doing the reverse DNS lookup. We have confirmed with our hosting service and independent, 3rd-party tools that reverse DNS is working correctly for us.

Xenite.Org does not send out unwanted emails. Our Once Daily Digest is most likely being blocked because it contains links to articles that have been published. Although we deplore the inability of a major ISP to recognize that you asked for these emails, we appreciate their efforts to make your email experience a little better.

If you are already subscribed to the Once Daily Digest and not receiving them, you could try contacting CenturyLink and asking them to whitelist us.

Charter/Spetrum customers may be able to whitelist Xenite.Org/192.96.215.25 through this form but we cannot guarantee you’ll be successful.
