Houston Fans Gathering For Hobbity Fun Tonight

I apologize for waiting until the last moment to share this news. If you live in the Houston area and are not yet sure whether you want to see “The Hobbit” at midnight or attend a line party, be advised there is a special event for Hobbit fans that has been organized by Diana Martinez (no relation to me, so far as I am aware) of PES Katy (you will find details on this latter page).

For security reasons movie theaters no longer allow people to wear masks or bring toy weapons to events. Here is a brief explanation from Diana’s Website:

How does this sound? You show up at the movie theater at 10 PM on Dec. 13, 2012 and instead of taking your place at the back of a very, very long line that does not guarantee you a good seat, you are instead greeted and led to a private hobbit-themed party by our own hobbit-costumed character. After your ticket is checked-in by yet another Tolkien-costumed character, you enter into a wonderland right out of one Tolkien’s books. Hobbit-themed music playing in the background, a hobbit-worthy feast awaiting you on the table. Costumed staff mingling and available for photo ops. As you’re magically transported into our very own Middle Earth, enjoy interacting with and meeting new fellow Tolkien fans, all in character. Participate in games or try your luck at trivia contests. Play Escape from Goblin Town and paint warrior figurines (yours to keep courtesy of Texas Battle Bunker ) keep as a souvenir, as well as many other giveaways, prizes and surprises. VIP guests are allowed to reserve their very seat in the auditorium.

You can see the prices on the EventBrite page. Diana tells me there should be media coverage of the event and lots of fun.

Although I was invited to participate in the event I’m afraid I just could not make it. Nonetheless, Diana did ask me to provide her with a list of trivia questions based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and I was able to do that. Some of the questions are pretty easy and some of the questions are pretty hard. I might even have trouble answering a few myself (were I not under a lifetime world-wide ban against participating in Tolkien trivia contests).

In any event, I hope the good folks in Houston have a lot of fun. Although I was looking forward to participating in a line party this year the nearest one to me is a bit too far away for my comfort. I’m just going to see the movie at a convenient time on Friday. But maybe I can attend the next line party in 2013.
